Anthropic is ploughing through with an update to their Claude language model/chatbot⁸²⁵, Claude 2. This version comes with improved coding/maths/reasoning, longer responses, and can be accessed via API and a beta website for UK and US users. It scores 76% on the bar, is in the 90th percentile of the GRE writing exam, and can produce documents with thousands of tokens. Keep going Anthropic!

Shutterstock is continuing to take the route of AI collaboration rather than copyright fighting. They’ve signed a 6 year deal to licence OpenAI³⁵⁹ with their images, videos, music³⁵⁹, and any associated metadata. In return they’ll get enhanced access to OpenAI’s releases; and OpenAI will work with them to bring generative AI to GIFs for all you Giphy users out there.

Despite the Chinese government’s insistence on heavily regulating AI⁸² over there, their players do seem to just keep pushing forward. The founder of China’s main search engine says that his newest company, Baichuan Intelligence,²⁷⁸ is close to releasing a model ²⁷⁸comparable in performance to OpenAI’s GPT-3.5²⁷⁸. It has 13 billion parameters, is trained on English and Chinese, and is fully open-source with optimisation for commercial applications.
