I hate to pull the mood down in our picks, but this is one people should be aware of. Researchers have found that ‘AI detection’ tools⁴⁵⁸ tend to ⁴⁵⁸discriminate against non-native English speakers⁴⁵⁸ because of simpler word choices. Running 91 English essays through the detectors, some incorrectly flagged over 90% of cases.

It’s been a while since we covered an obscure start-up doing funky work in here, but I love this one. Pano AI uses AI vision to detect impending wildfires⁶⁰⁹, and they’ve just landed a $17m Series A.
