1. Google made two updates to Gemini yesterday:⁵¹⁰

   • Gems - Gems are custom versions of Gemini with specific instructions to act in a certain way. It's kinda like "Custom GPTs," but right now, it's mostly just a fancy prompt-saver. Gems are cuter than GPTs though. I'm betting they'll add cooler stuff soon, like letting you add files and sharing. Gems are only available to Gemini Advanced users for now.

   • Imagen 3 - Google's slowly rolling out its top-tier image model, Imagen 3, to Gemini. And get this—it’s gonna let us generate pictures of people again (soon)! Remember when they had to take that away because the results were absurdly inaccurate?

   Another tiny one: They are partnering with OpenStax to show textbook content inside Gemini. Google is shipping 🔥.

2. OpenAI is eyeing more funding, valuing it at more than $100B.²⁹⁶ Thrive Capital is leading with a $1B investment, and Microsoft is joining in too. WSJ reports that some shareholders are looking to sell OpenAI shares. OpenAI was last valued at $86B earlier this year in an employee share buyback (that was delayed from last year after Sam’s exodus drama).
