OpenAI is shrugging off reports of GPT-4 getting worse with a big release yesterday. Custom Instructions allows users to set preferences^1,756 that ChatGPT then takes into account in all future conversations. This gives users who tend to repeat instructions in queries wayyyy more control and saves wayyyy more time. Initially, it’s beta for Plus users and should be available to everyone in a few weeks.

I’m getting reminded of that whole CNET AI-generated news debacle with this one… Google has been testing a new tool for writing news stories⁵³¹, even pitching it to the likes of NYT and Washington Post. Called Genesis, it takes in a bunch of content and uses AI to generate news copy. Reportedly, some pitches found it rather unsettling.

It’s interesting because Open AI is also actively partnering with news orgs recently.

Perplexity adds⁶⁶⁷ image results in its searches ⁶⁶⁷with other updates.⁶⁶⁷

There is a new fresh UI and better AI companion in its Chrome extension. There are updates to the iOS app as well.

The storage and categorisation also get the ability to change the titles of your searches. I wonder how this new trend of storing your chats, just like files combines with the other trend of not organising your files and wanting to find them using natural language.
