Anthropic raised its C series funding from Spark Ventures, Google, and more. And the much-awaited addition of generative AI into Photoshop is finally happening officially. Sprinkle in some tiny Google experiments as well.

Microsoft Build 2023 brings AI’s next round of release dumps⁸⁸⁴

All these big tech firms need to give us a break with their annual conferences! We’ve got another beast of an AI product dump for you guys today, and this time it’s Microsoft leading the charge. Gonna keep each one brief:

• OpenAI is bringing live search to ChatGPT⁷⁸⁵, and you guessed who the provider is… Bing

• Bing Search is getting stuck into plug-ins³⁴⁰, and they’re providing full interoperability between Microsoft and OpenAI apps.

• Power Pages^1,586 is Microsoft’s website-building tool, and you’ll now be able to describe what you want, and AI will create. This is a big step in web development from such a big provider!

• It might not be as good as the Code Interpreter, but Microsoft Fabric will let you build end-to-end data platforms with an AI-based analytics tool⁵⁵⁵.

• Microsoft’s Canva-like web app can generate designs for presentations, posters, and more, and they’re now providing watermarks to verify AI generation⁶²⁷.

Anthropic just landed a whopper of a Series C to keep developing generative AI³⁶²

Is the tide beginning to turn from RLHF to constitutional AI? Anthropic’s recent success suggests it may well be… they’ve just slam-dunked a $450m Series C to keep creating their generative ai chat technology. This takes them up to $1.45bln in total funding - jeez! These ex-OpenAI guys are making real waves right now, and I’m keen to see where they go.

Generative Fill, a new superpower integrated throughout Photoshop, launching in beta today.⁵⁹⁸

Our old friend Photoshop is back with a new feature: “Generative Fill.” You just circle the relevant area and tell AI (powered by Adobe Firefly) to change it. It’s awesome in action.

Right now, Adobe is the go-to option for anyone who wants to avoid copyright claims and court cases (aka big companies) with gen AI. This tweet²³⁰ from Andreas sums it up: "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated" – Adobe Photoshop

Google brings generative art to their commercial marketing tools³⁸⁰

Google’s not silent as well. They are experimenting on

a) Dynamic search ad copy, so that ads can appear in AI-generated snippets.
b) Product Studio, letting merchants create product imagery using generative AI.
