AMP Robotos land $100m for their recycling robots⁴⁹⁴

As much as I love the generative AI hype, it’s a refreshing feeling to be able to talk about something else, especially when it involves robots! That old-school feeling. AMP Robotics build robotics systems that sort recycling, and they’ve just landed a whopping 99 bucks from Microsoft’s Climate Innovation Fund. Their flagship AMP Cortex robot performs 80-120 picks per minute, and they have 275 robots that have successfully identified a total of 75 billion objects to date. Keep on saving the environment team.

Anthropic’s Claude chatbot can now understand 75k words^1,761

It’s all about context windows these days, and Anthropic is upping its game. Their ChatGPT equivalent, Claude, has just been upgraded from being able to process 9k tokens up to 100k! That means it can digest roughly 75,000 words across hundreds of pages, understand the content, and chat with you about it. Anthropic even gave Claude the entirety of The Great Gatsby, changed one line, and it spotted the difference in 22 seconds. That’s impressive! One more thing: you can drop docs and books into the interface and get stuck in.

The EU has officially tightened regulations on generative AI ⁴⁶⁷

Sorry guys, but we’re ending a cracking week by jumping back on the regulation train again. The big bill we’ve all been waiting for has passed in the EU, and those AI CEOs are really gonna have to stay on top of things… They’ll have to outline safety checks, data governance measures, and potential risk mitigation methods. There are even rules around reporting and tracking environmental impacts. Big stuff and probably for the best!
