• Research aimed at increasing the capabilities of Neuroscience and AI²⁵⁶. Based on the premise that a better understanding of neural computation will reveal basic ingredients of intelligence and catalyze the next revolution in AI. Potentially surpassing human capabilities.

• WTF are NeRFs?! No, not the toy guns or whistling footballs. Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs) of course! This thread is a simple explainer²¹⁶ (the account breaks down technical AI, worth a follow if that’s your jam).

• AI-generated movie trailers?! MovieCLIP: Visual Scene Recognition in Movies. This paper¹⁷⁴ shows leveraging features from models pre-trained on MovieCLIP benefits downstream tasks such as multi-label scene and genre classification of web videos and movie trailers.

• Flan anyone? Well Google AI has released an open-source language model called Flan-Td³⁰⁰. It is instruction-finetuned on 1,800+ language tasks, leading to dramatically improved prompting and multi-step reasoning abilities. • AI-generated entertainment³³⁴. A live stream of “The ML Show” - an automated cartoon that can create an endless stream of YouTube kid’s animation. Although it was live for only 48 hours. Check on the kids every few days maybe?

• Fast.ai have released part 2 of their course; From Deep Learning Foundations to Stable Diffusion²³⁸. The first 5.5 hours are free!

• An NYT piece about AI, including an interview with Stability AI founder, Emad. A Coming-Out Party for Generative A.I., Silicon Valley’s New Craze¹³³

• Mike Mignano (who founded Anchor, which sold to Spotify) wrote a piece on the creator economy and its evolution¹⁵⁰. Naturally, AI got its own shoutout on how it may be used by creators now and in the future.

• An artificial intelligence-based stats query tool that can answer questions put to it in regular English. AskCricinfo is focusing on Cricket stats^1,205.

• OpenAI DALL-E API looks to be released soon and here’s an early look¹⁶⁶. They already have a customer using it for a specific enterprise-ready use case.

• Midjourney Remix¹⁵³ - You can now “remix” your text-to-image prompts on Midjourney.

• Large Language models can self-improve²⁸⁵

• 3D meat printing¹²⁴ is coming. It doesn’t look that appetising…

• GoogleAI are very busy, they also released U-PaLM 540B³⁹¹! What is it? Basically, it improves existing language models and their scaling curves with a relatively tiny amount of extra compute.

• Alphabet Google is in talks to invest at least $200 million⁸⁰ into artificial intelligence startup Cohere Inc., which creates natural language processing software that developers can then use to build artificial intelligence applications for businesses, including tools for chatbots and other features that can understand human speech and text.

• The End of Scarcity²⁵⁵ - Nuclear fusion is the primordial source of the sun’s energy. For decades, scientists have been trying to recreate it on Earth. Now they’re closer than ever to achieving it and to unlocking a future of clean power for all.
